First Post!

April 18, 2006

My first post in my new blog… for the moment I'm gonna use it to talk about travelling and post some photos whenever I get near a computer. My girlfriend and I are going to Costa Rica on the 5th May and then to Mexico on the 28th. We'll be back on the 15th of June.

Hawaii

November 12, 2005

We spent 2 weeks in Hawaii, mainly on the main island of Oahu. While on Oahu we stayed on Waikiki Beach in the Polynesian Youth Club Hostel which had a relaxed feel to it. We lazed around on the beach most days watching the surfers… there wasn't much else we wanted to do. We also spent about 5 days on Maui, which had amazing scenery and unbelievable beaches.

Fiji

October 28, 2005

We spent a month in Fiji, most people said that it was too long but we found that we could've spent another month at least. We spent the first and last week in the Yasawas, a chain of islands to the west of Vitu Levu, which were the tourist destination and obviously where most people who came to Fiji visited. The rest of the time we caught a bus to Suva (the capital) where we caught a ferry to Vanua Levu, the second largest island in Fiji, which was much more representitive of Fiji. There were a few craft shops and a DVD cinema and a really nice restaurant called Charans Dinning [sic]. We then travelled in a light aircraft to Taveuni – The Garden Isle. Which was also beautiful and had some great diving.

New Zealand North Island

September 29, 2005

We arrived in Wellington in time for Jade's birthday (13th) and stayed in a swanky hotel in the CBD of Wellington near the Cuba quarter. We watched Charlie and the Chocolate factory on supposedly the largest screen in the southern hemisphere – where Return of the King was premiered. While on the North Island we spent a few days with my second cousin at a Bull Breeding Centre outside Palmerston North. We also visited Napier with it's art deco architecture and stayed in Roturua – Sulphur City, for 6 days. We flew out of the sprawling metropolis that is Auckland.

New Zealand South Island

August 30, 2005

We hired a car in Christchurch and took it from there. We hadn't prebooked anything and didn't really know anything about NZ, only the things we had heard were worth a visit – Milford Sound, Mount Cook etc. In the end we moved to a new place each night and we needed to so that we could do all we wanted in the 2 weeks we had. The driving was really good fun – a lot of straight roads which were virtually empty. My favourite town in NZ had to been Queenstown which had a mainly young, snowboard/skiing/extreme sports, but relaxed population. I got to do a bungy jump at the Kawarau bridge – the original home of the bungy. From Queenstown I drove to Milford Sound and back in a day which was a good 385 miles (620km) and driving for about 200 of those was winding roads that you couldn't go over 30mph. The rain and fog didn't help either! We drove back up the West Coast of New Zealand – a completely different area which looked Jurassic.

Australia

August 29, 2005

We spent a month in Australia, 30th July – 29th August, visiting relatives from all around the country. We visited my Great Uncle and Aunt in Tamworth and got to check out the sheep markets and country music. We visited my second cousins in a nice area of Ipswich (they exist) a city outside Brisbane in Queensland. We then went up to Port Douglas via Surfer's Paradise, Gold Coast and Coff's Harbour. While there I did some diving on the Great Barrier Reef which was amazing. We also drove up to Cape Tribulation while there. We then flew to Tasmania ("Tassie") to see my other Great Uncle and Aunt. Tassie was very beautiful with snow capped peaks, lots of ports and a natural state.
